THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NATURAL RESOURCES AND SECURITY
MAJOR GENERAL RICHARD ENGEL, (USAF, RET.)
Former Director, Environment and Natural Resources Program, Strategic Futures Group, National Intelligence Council
General Richard Engel accepted a position as the Director of the NIC's Technology and Strategic Futures Program in October 2015. Prior to that, he served as the Director of the Strategic Futures Group Environment and Natural Resources program, Deputy National Intelligence Officer for Science and Technology and Economics, and as a Senior Analyst with the Office of Transnational issues of the Central Intelligence Agency.
While in the Air Force, General Engel was Commandant of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the commander of the Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base.
General Engel has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University, a Master of Science degree from Arizona State University in industrial and systems management engineering, and a Masters of Arts degree in national security strategic studies from the Naval War College. He is a graduate of the Air Force Test Pilot School and while in the Air Force, accumulated more than 4,000 flying hours, and flew over 30 different aircraft.
